Bride and Groom Outside of Auberge du Pommier

This shot provided a wonderful opportunity to showcase the elegance of the bride and groom. The Auberge du Pommier is well known for its high-end and elegant French cuisine as well as its romantic setting. I wanted to make sure that the name of the establishment was visible for context, but not tack sharp where it distracted from my main subjects.

To do this I positioned the couple next to a beautiful floral bush that was cut in a way that perfectly matched the lines of the bride's dress and was far enough away from the building to create a nice sense of depth within the composition (the gate also added a nice framing line for the top half of the bride as well!). They were the perfect objects to frame them with in the shot. But because there was not another bush on the other side of the couple I chose to then place them on the right side of the frame, purposely making the edge of the image contrast with the other.

The light was too low behind the buildings for it to be powerful enough to light my whole scene, but I did enjoy the blue tones of the setting sky and the orange tones of the light fixtures. I exposed for ambient to keep the tones in the background while having my assistant place an off camera light just to the left of the couple. We made sure to feather it enough to also include the floral bush to the bride's right. In doing so we created dramatic definition of their features and a wonderful power couple photo!
