Old Mill Toronto Wedding: Katy & Jeff

SOME Q&A WITH OUR BRIDE AND GROOM

1) Tell us how you first met. Where, When, How? Give us the juicy details.

For those of you who know Jeff and his heavy involvement with the sport of baseball, it may come as a surprise that the sport that brought Katy and Jeff together was volleyball and not baseball.
Katy had been asked to play volleyball by friends who were looking for another female player to fill out their roster. Jeff joined the league a year later as a favour to the league organizer who needed one extra player for a group of “orphan” players. Katy and Jeff met one game when her team did not have enough players and so the two teams mixed up their players to make up teams. Fate would put Katy and Jeff on the same side of the court where they introduced themselves and played a fun few sets of volleyball.
There must have been a spark of interest during that game, perhaps due to Katy’s incredible smashing skills, or the fact that Jeff had called her “Christie” all night. Whatever it was, Jeff later asked Katy to join his team for drinks after a game to get to know her a bit more. Katy’s reply was “no” but with a “maybe another time” added. Not one to give up, Jeff would remind Katy of her half promise until one day she said “yes.”
Many years later, Katy would reply the same to another request made by Jeff, which brings us to the event this site is all about, the celebration of their wedding!

2) When did you know he/she was the one? Was there something he/she did?

Jeff knew Katy was the one when she was out of the country visiting family. He felt homesick the entire time even though he was at home. When he considered what could be the cause, he realized it must have been that Katy was not there. Katy just knew when she felt comfortable with him and was organizing her schedule to be able to see him the most.

3) Tell us about your proposal. (Did you see it coming? How long was it in the planning? How did you feel when it happened? (excited, nervous, etc.).

The proposal happened over the Victoria Day long weekend when Jeff and Katy were visiting Jeff’s cousin in Ottawa. On the last day while lunch was about to happen, Jeff’s cousin’s daughter walked over to Katy carrying a box. When Katy opened the box she saw the ring and Jeff proposed from the other end of the table. His cousin then became the flower girl. Jeff was very nervous all day and Katy had no idea that it was coming at that time. I (Katy) felt exited when it happened.

4) What is your favourite memory together aside from the proposal? Why?

A good memory was when Jeff told me that he wanted to go to get a t-shirt at Spencer’s and then he actually wanted to direct me into a jewelry store to look for an engagement ring.

5) Tell us the one thing you most love about each other.

I love the fact that Jeff is a great storyteller and makes an effort to be close with family and friends. I think Jeff loves my smile the most.

6) What do you think is unique about you as a couple?

Not sure what makes us unique, but we have a lot of fun together

7) Besides being married, what’s the one other thing you are looking forward to on your wedding day?

Spend time with the family and friends that we love and giving everyone something to celebrate.

8) What is your favourite wedding trend right now?

Not sure, but I do like to browse Pintrest. Also creating your own trends.

9) What inspired your decor theme?

We went with a spring classic romantic look.

10) What’s one thing you wish you would have known earlier in regards to planning your wedding?

Planning for everything to take a bit longer than you think (ie: give yourself more time).
